Hereford Rotarians support
Barrs Court School

Hereford Wye Valley Rotarians have completed at ten-year project supporting and furthering literacy for those less fortunate - pupils at a senior special school in the club’s home city. Club President (2006-2007) Stewart Gilbert handed over another substantial donation to Barrs Court School in support of their Hydrosense Appeal.

The money was the result of two highly successful events – a charity golf day at the Burghill Valley Club and the annual Christmas Carol Concert in All Saints Church, Hereford. Over £2,000 was handed over as a result of these events. The Wye Valley club has supported the school over the past ten years with a number of initiatives; financing class support assistants, building projects, classroom activities and, now, the Hydrosense Appeal.

School headmaster Richard Aird said of the latest donation: “It is always worthy of note when members of our local community support our school, but the support received from Hereford Wye Valley Rotarians over the past ten years has been phenomenal.

"Without their continued support this school would never have been able to provide the high standard of education and care we have achieved in recent years and I am delighted our local Rotarians have also chosen to support our registered charity, The Hydrosense Appeal, despite the many requests they receive for financial support from other worthy causes. I am profoundly grateful to all our friends in the Hereford Wye Valley Rotarians.

Club Youth Activities chairman, Dick Makin added: “The Hereford Wye Valley Rotarians have long appreciated the fantastic work done by this school in helping the children in their education and in the community. When we organise events in support of Barrs Court the public are ever-willing to give their cash to help.”
